Learning is more effective when you continuously challenge yourself. Learning is simpler when you collaborate. We understand that several colleges are interested in hosting robotics competition in their campuses. Such competitions require a lot of planning from the host's side. If the colleges who have already hosted such competition can share their learning with others it can help others.

One of the participant colleges in E-yantra initiative had successfully organized a robotics competition and they were kind to share their learning with us. If you are interested in holding such competition in your campus you can download the attached document.

We will appreciate any feedback from your side. You can comment on this article itself (for which you need to be signed in) or you can create a discussion thread on our forum or you can mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Success Stories: Design and Development of Autonomous Robot for Saloon Cleaning PDF Print E-mail
Written by EYantra Team

Students of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar have successfully developed an autonomous robot for saloon cleaning.

Students learned the basic skills of embedded program and mobile robot in 1st and 2nd workshop conducted in NITJ under e-Yantra. After getting experience the students purchased the microcontroller, motors and a small vacuum cleaner from the local market of Jalandhar. The line follower technique has been used to move the robot for clean the surface in a saloon around/near the barber’s chair. It has been tested and demonstrated in local saloon. This robot may also be used for carpet cleaning in houses, hotels, airports or in any public place.

Workshop Schedule PDF Print E-mail

Schedule for Two day Workshop on Intelligent Robotics

Prof. Kavi Arya, ERTS Lab, CSE Dept., IIT-Bombay, 29/30 Jan.2010

We present the schedule for a two-day orientation program acquainting college faculty with our Embedded Systems course at IIT-Bombay and the use of robots designed in the Embedded & Realtime Systems (ERTS) lab for teaching purposes. We acquaint participants with the course material developed at IITB and discuss how we might best use such robots to animate teaching of subjects such as embedded systems & microcontrollers in engg colleges.

A. Goals

E-Yantra – The Research Project

The growth of embedded systems in India depends on our being able to produce high quality and innovative engineers with exposure to robotic technology from a young age. Unfortunately hands-on learning-infrastructure has traditionally been expensive in India. Our goal is to create the next generation of (embedded system) engineers in India who are more practical in their outlook.

Goal of the project of which the pilot is a part:

Objective & scope:

1. Design and deploy robots for enhanced teaching of subjects in Engineering Colleges

2. Continued education for teachers for quality improvement in teaching

3. Open courseware for Embedded Systems for engineering students based on robots.

4. Web based recourses to support these coursewares To create Complete Web-based documentation and resources.

5. Start by covering 3600 students across 20 engineering colleges in first year.

As robots will be deployed in the colleges they will continue to educate more and more students

The progress of our nation lies in being able to produce high quality and innovative engineers who have exposure to technology from a young age and can help innovate technology. This proposal presents an integrated approach for incorporating robotics into secondary and engineering education with the objective of further engaging students through an exciting application of math, computers, and science.
